Updates on The Book

Some exciting new plans are brewing and they got me wanting to finish my Fashion Book soon! Today I took another step towards its completion. I took all (alteast I think it's all) my cut-outs, made a big mess on the dinning table and started dividing them into "categories".

Here they were already semi-seperated into categories

I ended up with 7 categories:

1 - General Inspiration. Things I liked, but won't be able to make for me. Really diverse types of clothing. I'm probably going to make two "subcategories": Military and Leather. <3
2 - Modern, Geometric and Minimalist. Mostly outfits from the 2010 winter runways in Brazil.
3 - Things for Me. Ideas I want to bring to my personal style, or either make for myself. Simpler things to sew.
4 - Accessories. You know, the works: shoes, bags, hats... And some not so usual accessories, like Champagne carrying cases!
5 - Lace, Romantic and Vintage. My favorite category, I think. Anything that has a romantic feeling to it, lace, or victorian-inspired.
6 - Pretty Pictures. Pictures I gathered for making the covers of The Book later on.
7 - Make up and Hair. I'm thinking of making a whole other Book just for Make up and hair.

Now the next step is start gluing the cut-outs in! Even though I've cut up A LOT of magazines, I have more than 10 still intact... I'm afraid I'll have to divide The Fashion Book into volumes... but we'll see as I glue along!

Now I'm signing off and I'll leave you with a question:
What do you do for inspiration?

A little 'ello

I know I've introduced myself on here, but I wanted to make a video introduction as well.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them.
Hope you had a nice week end.

Quick make up fix plus why I've been gone.

Hi guys! There's been sooo much stuff going on in my life right now that's been keeping me from blogging, but I'm glad I've been so busy! It was all fashion related ;D The first big news actualy happened like 2 weeks ago... I was called to be an extra in a movie! We had to be on set at 6pm and filmed until 6am, so I was basicaly a zombie for one week from going to sleep so late. Buuut the thing that made me insanely happy was that the fashion designer responsible for all the clothing in the movie was there helping with the costumes the whole time, and he was the one that asked the casting people to find "A girl with white blond hair" haha =] He is insanely nice and his clothing line rocks... he will be getting his own post, of course. ;)

Second big thing: I am no longer a blondie! =[
Not exactly by choice... I dyed my hair for an event where I was dressed up as Leeloo from The Fifth Element!
I wanted to make regular posts about the whole thing, to keep you up to date, but I just didn't have time for it. Sooo I'll just make one post about the whole adventure. It'll be worth the wait, don't worry.

But I'm not here only to say I'm sorry (I've been doing that alot, haven't I?). I've actualy been struggling with video editing softwares (and that's why I also took so long to get this up) because I filmed a little experiment I did to try and save my make up that broke! So if you've ever had trouble with compact powders breaking, than its worth watching this:

Since I made this video, I've heard of another way to save your broken powders. Apparently if you take plastic wrap, put it over the broken powder and then press down hard, you can get the particles back together. I haven't tried it yet, but it's deffinately woth a shot, since the alcohol I used did seem to take away some of the product's original quality.

And that's it for now.
If you have any other tips on how to save make up, send them through comment or e-mail!

Lime Crime

First of all, I'm so sorry for not posting in over 2 weeks, but now I'm back! And I'll try to make it up to you by posting my first video!
Lots has happened during this time... Including getting new make up in the mail!
I made quite a big order because I always get excited when buying make up. Hahaha!

The name of the brand is Lime Crime, and it's slogan: "So bright it's illegal"!
The founder goes by the pseudonim of Doe Deere and is a lover of unicorns and bright colors.
It is a farely new brand, created in 2008, and has spiked up some controversy on the web but I am not here to discuss that. I'm here to give my sincere and unbiased opinion on the products.

I bought 5 shades of lipstick, 7 shades of eyeshadow and got 4 more eyeshadows thanks to a promo code. =]
The packaging is quite cute, and embraces the spirit of the brand (everything has shiny unicorns on it), including the box it all came in.

I have devided the review in 2 parts. The first being about the lipstick and the second about the eyeshadow. I'm also got some great tutorials in HD planned for the near future!

The 5 shades of lipstick I bought are the following:

Cosmopop, D'Lilac, My Beautiful Rocket, No She Didn't, Stylleto... Turns out "My Beautiful Rocket" isn't so beautiful...

I thought they were ok lipsticks in general but not sure if I'd buy them again. They get points for uniqueness but nothing much other than that. They are definately very creamy lipsticks but there's just something about them that doesn't make them worth US$16. The only one I'd probably buy again is "No She Didn't".

Another thing I'd like to point out: the packaging is very cute IMO, and does not LOOK cheap, but it does FEEL cheap to the touch. It's a very light-weight packaging. I expected something sturdier for 16 bucks.

Here are my indepth thoughts on them:

Im sorry for all the "uuuh..."s. It was my first time talking in front of a camera! hahaha

So yeah, I don't think Youtube likes me too much because an error always occured when uploading the video's version with no background noise and now they've cut 1 minute off of this version!
I hope these glitches get sorted out soon!

Hope you enjoyed this and I'd love your feedback!

Technical Dificulties

Hi guys! I'm writing to say I'm sorry and that I have not abandoned you!
I have a whole new and exciting blog post ready about a make up review and it includes a video I recorded. The only thing stopping me from posting is that I'm having trouble with a glich on You Tube. I've been strugling with it for this past week. It is doubling the length of my video and I'm not able to upload it because now "the length is too long".
Once they fix that I'll have the post up. If they take too long, I'll find another solution. ;)

Thank you for reading and thanks for your patience!

Product designs that make me swoon

With so many make-up brands out in the market today, what should companies invest on to get attention? Ads showing the quality of the product? Well, that used to be useful before the invention of Photoshop… For instance: are you really drawn into buying a mascara just because you saw a very cliché picture of a model or an actress with incredibly full lashes that are definitely fake? (I hate mascara ads exactly for that reason, by the way)
What will really catch your eye when you enter a store like Sephora, for example?

For companies now a day, thinking about the package and the presentation is just as important as thinking about the actual product itself.

I’ve encountered innumerous products which I then became “dying to buy” just because of how it looks! Seriously.
The most recent example of this phenomenon are these lipsticks by Paul & Joe:

I confess I totaly "squeed" when I saw these.
They're for the Fall 2010 collection and are only coming out in these three colors.

It's totaly thinking outside the box and is the kind of thing that draws alot of attention! When I saw these, it got me thinking about all the inventive packaging I had seen in the make up world and I started remembering a bunch of cool products that I haven't tried yet, but are on my wish list.

Polyvore

I’ve known the site Polyvore for a while but I’ve never felt compelled to join. I always thought it was cool the way people built their sets and the way you could mix and match things, but I always imagined that it would be a tad too confusing or time-consuming. I was proven wrong last night. I was actually looking for a shoe online and decided to see if polyvore maybe had it in it’s archives. Sadly, it didn’t, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and user-friendly the site is!

For you who don’t know what the site is about, I’ll give you a quick explanation:

There are pictures of clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. and they show a description of the product, the price, and where to buy it. You can add them to your “favorites” and make “sets” with them. A set would be a combination of a number of items, forming an outfit.

The site is great for keeping track of the latest fashions or for keeping a wishlist! I’ve joined to be able to get further inspiration when drawing and creating.

If you are a member there, send me a link! I’d love to see your sets! I haven't created any yet, but I've been favoriting items! My member name is tfbp.

Don’t be shy!

P.S: Does anyone know where to find this shoe pictured below?! It's from Topshop but they don't have it on their site. I saw it in NYLON magazine (July/2010). I'm absolutely in love with it but can't find it anywhere! Any help is apreciated! <3
